Net immigration fell during 2025

UK News

Long term migration into the UK fell to an estimated 171000 during 2025. This is a near halving compared to 2024 and is the lowest level since 2012. The overall flow is approximately 813000 people immigrated to the UK whilst approx. 642000 left. The main drop was for Non-Eu immigrants. One strong factors is the sharp drop of Ukranian refugees after much tighter rules. In 2022, after the war almost 10000 came to the UK per week. For 2025 14900 came during the whole year. The top 3 countries from where immigrants came to the UK during 2025 are: India, 17% (mainly study and skilled work visas) , Pakistan 7% (evenly Work, Study and Asylum) and China 7% (mainly higher education study visas.) 14% of the inflow were previous British residents of British citizen origin. Of people leaving the UK the top three destinations are: Australia, USA and Canada. Australia has seen a surge of young brits taking advantage of the Working holiday visas. The USA feature corporate relocations and Canada receives Brits through a skilled migration program.
